BETHANY MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH
OUR MINISTRIES
Like any church our ministries are determined by the personnel and means available. God has blessed us that we have some people of ability in our congregation. We conduct a service at the Rest Haven Nursing home once per month. We also take part in the annual McDermott Parade sponsored by the local Fire Department. Our people take part in other community events as the opportunities arise. Our pastor writes a weekly column called "Ruminations." It is published in the Lewis County Herald, Vanceburg, KY and is also posted online on Facebook. At times we operate a food pantry.
Prayer
Prayer is an essential part of Christian life whether it be a person or an organization. Our Prayer Meetings on Wednesday nights are truly Prayer Meetings. After music and a sermon we take requests and have a season of prayer. We take seriously the words of Paul, "Pray without ceasing." II Thess. 5:17 We encourage our people to pray daily.
Elders / Seniors
Several of our members are elderly or are senior citizens. On Wednesday nights we usually have special prayer for our older members. They have held our church together for years and have contributed much to the Lord's ministry through Bethany Baptist Church. God bless them all for their faithfulness in serving Him through our church.
Sunday School
Our Sunday School has a class for every age. Currently our lessons are from Bogard Press except in the Adult Class. There the Pastor teaches the class and prepares his own lessons. Right now he is teaching the "Life of David" from I & II Samuel and sometimes from II Chronicles. Our Sunday School begins at 10:00 AM every Lord's Day.
Youth
Our children are the church of tomorrow. We have some wonderfully talented young people at Bethany. They are good at handcrafts, music and like most children they are good at just having fun. We have a children's program on Wednesday nights taught by one of our ladies. We have had the privilege of seeing some of them saved and baptized.
Music
At Bethany we love the old hymns, Tradtional Gospel, Southern Gospel, Bluegrass Gospel, Country Gospel, Inspirational Gospel and some toned down Contemporary Gospel music. Our pianist is a preacher's kid, and our organist is a converted rock n roll keyboardest who is exceptionally talented. One of our families does great country and Bluegrass Gospel. We have a hymn sing every Fifth Sunday, and sometimes we have special musical guests for the occasion.
